Basic Need To Know

Start your exercise plan with knowing how fit you are. On the other hand, you can use this fitness assessment to evaluate whether your current exercise plan is working for you.

UP TO 7 500 Vitality Points!

You can earn 2500 Vitality points and up to an additional 5000 Vitality points depending on your fitness level.

Vitality Fitness Assessment Points

The points you earn from your Vitality Fitness Assessment contribute towards your yearly cap of 30 000 fitness points.

The fee for 2021.

R460.00 per person (per assessment).

You will need to pay for the assessment upfront.

If you are on a Medical Scheme plan that covers the cost, you can claim this amount from your day-to-day benefits if you have funds available.

If you are a Discovery Life policyholder, you will need to pay for your assessment upfront.

Everyone on an active Vitality membership can go for the Vitality Fitness Assessment. Only Vitality members, 18 years and older, can earn points for this assessment.

The Vitality Fitness Assessment takes about 45 minutes to complete.

The Vitality Fitness Assessment is made up of two parts – the first part measures your cardio-vascular* fitness and the second measures your strength and flexibility.

*We only do the treadmill protocol to measure your cardio-vascular fitness (please see the Important Testing Criteria under the Important Client Info section).

It has been designed to give you an accurate and personalised understanding of your fitness.

After the Vitality Fitness Assessment, we will show you what you need to focus on in order to get fitter and stronger.

Vitality’s physical activity promotion initiatives include encouraging members to participate in regular activity.

The aim is to meet American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines of doing at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity activity each week.

We cannot do your assessment if you have any of the following health problems* :

  • heart problems that causes you to take medication to control your heart rate (e.g. beta-blockers)
  • high blood pressure with medication that affect your heart rate (e.g. medications that have beta-blockers)
  • kidney disease
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • heart-pacemaker / -transplant

*If you have any of these listed health problems, you will have to do the Wattbike cycle ergometer test - which we are not equiped to do.
